Focus groups in Italy
Associazione Italiana Persone Down (AIPD) has organised 3 focus groups, each of them has foreseen one session of approximately 4 hours:
- Roma, 2 April 2013, 9 participants
- Bari, 9 March 2013, 11 participants
- Bergamo, 16 March 2013, 7 participants
Diversity in the experience working with people with severe disability was the criteria of selection, in order to increase the representativity of the sample.
The richness of the groups consisted in fact in their internal hetherogeneity, brought by the difference in:
- age of the professionals
- working or volounteering experience with intellectual disability
- the different projects professionals were involved in.
The results of the discussions showed that the main INV’s objective is to answer to the needs of the workers, after having listened to them, taking into consideration not so much theoretical aspects of the relation between the professional and the person with severe Down syndrome, but giving a contribution to the already started reflection, through the suggestion of activities, praxes tobe implemented, relevant subjects to deal with and the way to do it.
